Asia Argento was raised in Rome by a film-maker as well as an actor family. The two professions she chose to pursue were her own. Her debut came when she was only nine years old in the film of Sergio Citti, Sogni e bisogni (1985). She portrayed the principal part in Cristina Comencini's debut feature film Zoo (1988), as well as being part of Michele Soavi's ensemble on The Church (1989). Red Wood Pigeon, directed by Moretti in 1989, played her role as Nanni Moretti's daughter. Close Friends, written and directed Michele Placido in 1992, was the point where Asia's acting career started off. As she grew older, playing girls, she shifted to perform more challenging and mature characters. It was received well during the Cannes International Film Festival. Trauma was the first film she made with her father. The mother of her, Daria Nicoledi is Argento's favourite actress. The film Trauma she played an anorexic looking for the murderer of her parents. The Phantom of the Opera The film, made by her father who passed away and is the final of three films she's acted in. The other two were Trauma as well as The Stendhal Syndrome. Giuseppe Piccioni used her absorbed and intense acting style in the film Condannato a Nozze. Patrice Chereau was her director in Queen Margot in which she was a major character. The actress was again a part of Michel Piccoli on Peter Del Monte's Traveling Companion in 1995, which earned her another David di Donatello, as in addition to the title Grolla D'oro. Asia started to direct short films in the year 1994. Two of them were made: Prospettive In 1996, she produced a documentary on her father, and Abel/Asia from 1998. Both focused on the cult film director Abel Ferrara. This latter was presented at the Rome Film Festival. Asia began her directorial debut as a feature film in 1999. It was Scarlet Diva (2000). It was also her main performer, as well as the creator of the film's script. In May 2000, the movie premiered in Italy and across the world. The film was awarded an award in the Williamsburg Film Festival in Brooklyn, New York. Anna Lou, the first of two daughters she has was born in the month of January in 2001. In 2002 she starred in The Red Siren by Olivier Megaton alongside Jean-Marc Bar as well as the action-packed film directed of Rob Cohen, with Vin Diesel. Asia is the author of numerous short stories that were published in various magazines.
