Asia Argento was raised in Rome by a film-maker and actor family. She pursued both professions her own. At nine years of age, Asia made her film debut alongside Sergio Citti in Sogni e bisogni. She played the leading role in Cristina Comencini's Zoo (1988) and appeared as part of Michele Soavi's 1989 feature film The Church. Red Wood Pigeon, directed by Moretti in 1989, was her role in the role of Nanni Moretti's daughter. Close Friends (1992), directed and written by Michele Placido was the film which launched Asia's career path. It was her first time moving from young girl roles to more mature and complicated roles. The film received an enthusiastic reception at the Cannes International Film Festival. For Trauma (1993) the actress was the first to work with her father, famed Italian horror director Dario Argento (her mother is among his favorite actors, Daria Nicolodi, playing an overweight girl who is in search of her parents' murderer. The Phantom of the Opera is her third movie together with her father, her first two movies being Trauma & The Stendhal Syndrome. Asia's focused and intense style of acting has also been used for the part of Giuseppe Piccioni in Condannato a Nozze. Patrice Chereau was the director. Queen Margot. The actress had a role that was internationally acclaimed. In 1995, her collaboration with Michel Piccoli, in Peter Del Monte's Traveling Companion won her yet another award from David di Donatello as well as Grolla di Oro. Asia started to direct short films in 1994. The two she directed were Prospettive In 1996, she directed a document about her father, and Abel/Asia in 1998, about the cult film director Abel Ferrara. This latter was awarded by the Rome Film Festival. The year 1999 was the year that Asia was the first to direct a feature film with Scarlet Diva (2000), in which she was the leading actress and author of the screenplay. The film premiered globally in the month of May. The film won awards during the Williamsburg Festival of Brooklyn, New York. In 2001, after directing numerous music videos and giving birth, she welcomed her first daughter, Anna Lou. In 2002 she starred in The Red Siren by Olivier Megaton with Jean-Marc Barr as well as the action-packed film directed in the film by Rob Cohen, with Vin Diesel. Asia has also been the writer of several stories that have been published in a variety of prestigious magazines
